Santa Cruz, as a place to preserve the essential Eastern budo tradition
while adapting it creatively to a Western context. Linda Sensei
consistently focuses on the key concepts of O'sensei's vision of Aikido in
a down-to-earth and direct way. Her classes are known for their physical
vigor and spiritual renewal.
The 1997 Summer Retreat will be held at the spacious new dojo facility of
North Bay Aikido, in Santa Cruz, on the central coast of California. Come
and celebrate the dream-come-true Dojo created by the hard work and
dedication of the North Bay Aikido Community! In addition to over 2,000
square feet of training area, the dojo includes a large kitchen, four
bathrooms, showers, a student lounge, dressing rooms, library, office,
children's playroom, and garden. Santa Cruz is famous for its beautiful
beaches, redwood forests, excellent restaurants, and University of
California campus (where we plan to hold the 1998 Summer Retreat). You may
wish to schedule an extra day before or after the Retreat to enjoy more of
Santa Cruz!
The Santa Cruz Aikido Summer Retreat provides an opportunity for intensive training for Aikidoists of all levels in an atmosphere of mutual respect. We benefit from the skills and insight of experienced practitioners while welcoming and progressing with newer students of the art.
In coming together for the 4th Annual Summer Retreat, we reaffirm the goal of integrating body, mind, and spirit in our practice. In addition to numerous daily opportunities for general keiko (training), the Retreat offers meditation and misogi classes, discussion, communal lunches at the dojo, and a celebratory barbeque and bonfire on the beach many ways to deepen our experience of Aiki community and our personal development as students of The Way of Harmony.
$165 per person, which includes the training fee for all classes Thursday through Sunday, plus three lunches (catered at the dojo) and a beach barbeque Saturday evening. Deposit of $70 is due May 10; balance due June 10.
All three lunches (Friday - Sunday) and the Saturday evening beach barbeque are included in the Retreat fees. Simple breakfast food will be available for a nominal fee in the dojo kitchen each morning. For Thursday and Friday dinners, we encourage you to enjoy our local restaurants.
The two closest airports to Santa Cruz are the San Jose International (30 miles) and the San Francisco International (75 miles). Shuttle service is available from either airport directly to the Retreat. Call the Santa Cruz Airporter at 1-800-497-4997 for rates and reservations.
