Aikido of Santa Cruz is a non-profit, public benefit, educational organization, serving the community since 1982. We welcome sincere students of any race, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, religion, or ethnic background. Our Chief Instructor is Linda Holiday Sensei, 7th degree black belt and author of Journey to the Heart of Aikido.

The founder of Aikido, Morihei Ueshiba O-Sensei (1883-1969) envisioned Aikido as a multifaceted training of body, mind, and spirit in the principles of harmony, natural movement, and "the spirit of love and protection for all." As Aikido emphasizes inner strength rather than physical strength, it is accessible to all ages and body types. Women and men train together in an atmosphere of mutual respect and support. Aikido practice is empowering, fun, and inspiring for everyone.

Aikido of Santa Cruz is a member of the California Aikido Association, Division II; affiliated with the Aikikai Hombu Dojo in Tokyo, Japan. Our dojo has deep connections with the origins of Aikido in Japan, the teachings of the founder of Aikido, and the lineage of Aikido teachers from Kumano, Japan.

“In Aikido we never attack. An attack is proof that one is out of control. Never run away from any kind of challenge, but do not try to suppress or control an opponent unnaturally. Let attackers come any way they like and then blend with them. Never chase after opponents. Redirect each attack and get firmly behind it.”

— Morihei Ueshiba O-Sensei (Founder of Aikido)
